On November 2, 1933, Nancy Marie Gusta was the 2nd daughter born to Viola McMillan and Oscar Gusta in Oakland, Texas. Nancy found Christ and was saved at the age of 16 in Weimar, Texas as she shouted after being baptized in Borden Lake. While being raised by her uncle and aunt, she found her love for Sunday School under the guidance of her Uncle Arthur who was a Sunday School Superintendent.
After graduating high school, she moved to Fort Worth, Texas to study nursing. In 1955, Nancy married Clarence "Skeeter" Smith then moved to Houston, where they began their life together. They were married 31 years, until his passing in December of 1986.
She began her career in nursing at Methodist Hospital where she proudly worked until her well-deserved retirement in the early 1990's. You would often find Nancy around her church speaking, hugging and kissing any and every one she could get to. Her priorities were always to meet her financial obligations at the church, calling and checking on members and she did all she could to lighten the load on her Pastor and First Lady who along with her church family were amongst her great pride and joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, great nephew Jacky and her only sister Esther M. Fant.
Last but certainly not least, Nancy wholeheartedly adored her family. She truly embodied the phrase "My Sister's Keeper". Alongside her only sister, she raised an array of nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and great nephews.
